Straight Talking are proud to announce that the Big Lottery Fund has granted us an additional 4-years funding to extend our Peer Education programme in North London.
The 2015/16 academic year will see us delivering courses on The Realities of Teenage Parenthood in the London boroughs of Enfield, Haringey, Waltham Forest, Hackney and Islington for the first time.
Lottery funding coincides with the development of our new module on Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE) and Grooming. Developed by Straight Talking in conjunction with teenage parents and Lifetrain UK the creation of a peer education programme on CSE is in response to recent high profile cases of Child Sexual Exploitation, such as Rotherham, Oxfordshire, Rochdale, Derby, Oldham and Bristol. The findings of subsequent reports compelled Straight Talking to act quickly to educate young people in schools about the dangers of CSE, giving them information and tools to protect themselves and seek support where needed.
The new 1-hour peer session covers the subjects of healthy relationships, grooming, consent, how to say no and indecent material online or in text.
